It is well documented that candidates can have varied learning
abilities, and practical background skills. Over a period of time

have devised recognised and accredited timetables to cater for these
different situations, whilst maintaining the training requirements
as laid down by the accrediting bodies, and HSE. Again we cannot
list all the training course programmes on this website but the
following table of minimum durations for the most common forklift
trucks can be used as a rough guide.

Definitions Novice
- Little or no established prior experience of driving any type of
forklift truck.
Experienced - Has had at least 3 months experience
of driving a forklift truck, but has had no formal training.
Conversion - Already certified on one type of
forklift truck and now needs to use different type of truck. i.e
has received formal training and certification on a counterbalance
forklift and now needs to operate a reach forklift.
Re-test/Refresher - As per your company policy.
