THE COURSES
Employers Responsibility
The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 (and subsequent
related legislation) requires
that all employers:
“ shall ensure that all persons who use work equipment
have received adequate training for purposes of health and safety,
including training in the methods which may be adopted when using
the work equipment, any risks which such use may entail and precautions
to be taken”.
The Health & Safety commission approved code of practice and
supplementary guidance for Rider Operated Lift Trucks Operator Training
(L117) requires training to encompass basic training, specific job
training and familiarisation training.
Record Keeping
Sadly, lift-truck and other workplace transport related accidents
do happen.
When they do, the cost to the employer, and the work that is involved
in the legal processes, (both time and money), is always expensive
– especially if proper records are not available or up-to-date.
An employer must maintain records for each and every operator to
prove that training has been provided and that this has been at
least adequate for the requirements of their job. As a minimum,
these records should include the original training records and certificates
of training undertaken.
On completion of training, all training records will be either
directed to a central collation point i.e. Head Office or Training
Department or direct to the operative, as agreed prior to a training
program being delivered.
Transport Training Agency Ltd
maintains full and complete records on all the operators we train
for a minimum of seven years and can provide customers with comprehensive
records on demand.
Qualification
On successful completion of training, the trainee will receive a
Certificate Of Basic Training. This will be accompanied by a pocket
/ wallet licence and comprehensive course individual training records.
All documents will be recorded and forwarded to an agreed location.
Certificate Of Basic Training is a nationally recognised qualification
accredited by the Independent Training Standards and Scheme Register
(ITSSAR).
